APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

The apprenticeship program is currently being restructured. The information included in this listing describes a list of previous schedules for each of three classifications: Screen, Display, and Sign.

HIRING AND SELECTION PROCEEDURES

While contractors will sometimes seek workers through the union, those seeking employment are recommended to go directly through the employers or contractors. Once employment has been found, each individual is required to become a member of the union after thirty (30) days.

SCREEN INDUSTRY

Applications are available upon request or upon hire. Apprentices are hired at a rate of 13 apprentices to 16 Journey level workers.

Four years of on-the-job training is required for all apprentices. No costs or specific tools required. The work week is typically 40 hours.

Screen Industry: Apprentice Wage Scale

6 Months Apprenticeship

Position: Racker-single press; Racker-multiple press Assembly; Finishing; Packaging; Shipping; Screen Cleaner; Machine Coater; Roller Coater operator.

1-Year Apprenticeship

Position: Shipping and Receiving clerk; Paper cutter

Wages

Wages can range from $8.20 to $17.27 per hour with benefits of $1.61 per hour extra.

Union Dues

Union dues are based on 2 times (x) the hourly rate of pay with an initiation fee of $100.

DISPLAY INDUSTRY

Applications are available upon request or upon hire. Check job postings. Apprentices are hired at a rate of one apprentice to three journey level workers.

This three-year apprenticeship program requires on-the-job training for all apprentices. There is a probationary period of 500 hours. Work week is typically 40 hours. Related training is one class during the life of the contract.

Tools Required

Tool box, knife, 2 hammers, 2 sets of screw drivers, set of high speed drills, pliers, center punch, wood chisels, 1 hacksaw, files.

Wages

Wages can range from $10.96 to $18.26 per hour with benefits of $3.55 per hour extra.

Union Dues

The initiation fee for members is 30 times (x) the starting rate of pay; for industrial, or unskilled, members it is 25 times (x) the starting rate of pay. Membership dues are 2 times (x) one's hourly rate plus per capita.

SIGN INDUSTRY

Applications are available year-round upon request or upon hire.

This five-year apprenticeship program requires on-the-job training for all apprentices. The work week is typically 40 hours.

Tools Required

The employer furnishes tools.

Wages

Wages can range from $9.20 to $18.51 per hour with benefits of $2.08 per hour extra.

Union Dues

The initiation fee for members is 30 times (x) the starting rate of pay; for industrial, or unskilled, members it is 25 times (x) the starting rate of pay. Membership dues are 2 times (x) one's hourly rate plus per capita.
