JOB DESCRIPTION
Work includes
the erection of all types of wooden structures including:
form building, framing, inside and outside finishing
and installation of all types of hardware. Some examples
include the construction of bridge decks; the laying
out, cutting and installation of roof framing; building
unequal pitch roofs; laying out and building trusses;
the use of framing squares; building cornices; the use
of roofing materials; welding; the installation of doors,
windows, floor, wall and ceiling coverings, mitred and/or
coped moldings, prefabricated cabinets and tops, insulation
and vapor barriers, etc.
Carpenters use blueprints and specifications to determine
types of materials and sizes to be used on the job.
APPRENTICESHIP
PROGRAM
Local 606
represents about 20 local shops and 80 shops outside
of the local area. The apprenticeship program includes
7,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of
144 hours of related instruction per year. Interested

If someone is interested in finding employment through
the union, he/she shall report to the union and will
then be placed on an out-of-work list.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a citizen of the US or in the process of receiving
naturalization status.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must having verifying documents for the above
Tools
Needed
Apprentices are expected to accumulate a basic
set of hand tools early in their training. Generally,
the
total cost of such tools is around $350.
Transportation
Requirements
Worker is expected to provide
own transportation.
Hours
Eight (8) hour days 8:00 AM - 4:30
PM or by union contract.
Wages
The wage varies, depending upon where
the work is based.
Union
Dues
The initiation
fee is $150 for journeymen and $60 for apprentices,
plus a one time only building fund fee of $18. Membership
dues are $15 per month for both journeymen and apprentices.
