JOB DESCRIPTION

Installation of hard ceramic tile.

Applicants must first be hired by one of the signatory contractors. After working 7 days, he/she will be required to join the union.

Workers start out as finishers, and work at finishers’ level for two (2) to four (4) years before starting the tile layers apprenticeship program.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Each contractor is allowed four (4) apprentices at any one time. When a contractor has space for an apprentice, an employed finisher will officially begin a 6,000 hour/2 year program of on-the-job training Tile Layer Apprenticeship and will attend night school one (1) night each week at The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Training Center for two (2) years.

Tools Needed

Contractors provide workers with most tools; finishers, at least, do not need to provide their own tools.

Transportation Requirements

Sites of jobs vary; workers need to provide their own transportation.

Hours

Generally from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM each day, Monday through Friday.

Wages

Vacation and fringe benefits are included. Starting pay is 60% of Journeyworker's wage, with a 10% raise after the first 1,000 hours (approximately six months) worked.

Union Dues

Initiation fee for Apprentices is $200.

Monthly membership dues are $17.
