JOB DESCRIPTION

Work involves the grinding and finishing of terrazzo floors. Work also includes all the sanding, mixing, and preparation of floors for installation.

Work requires a lot of strength, for it involves much lifting and transporting of heavy materials.

The union represents three (3) shops that hire (Twin City Tile and Marble Company. Grazzini Brothers Company, and Advance Terrazzo & Tile). Those who are interested in the terrazzo trade need to apply directly with one of those contractors.

Those who are hired are required to join the Bricklayers union within seven (7) working days.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

In order to advance to a journey-level worker, one must first work as a helper. He/she will go through 3,000 hours of on-the-job training prior to advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency (GED).
  • Must be in good physical condition.

Tools Needed

Contractor will provide the necessary tools.

Transportation Requirements

Worker is expected to have his/her own means of transportation. The locations of the jobs vary and change on a regular basis.

Hours

Hours are usually from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Wages

Starting wage is around 50% of the wage earned by a fully qualified member. Beginning workers, or helpers, will receive an increase in pay of 10% for every 600 hours worked. Wages include health and welfare benefits, plus $1.25 per hour for the retirement fund. Contact the Business Manager for more specific information, (612) 861-2956.

Union Dues

The initiation fee is $200. Membership dues are $27 each month, plus $.12 per working hour for dues check-off. Payments shall be made by check or money order.
