JOB DESCRIPTION

Mixing, covering, cleaning, truck driving, scaffold building, and some general laboring.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

4,000 hours with a probationary period of not more than 500 hours over not more than four months. 288 hours per year of related training is required. Applications are accepted year-round at the following address:

Training is offered both day and night. The cost of tuition and materials is included in the union dues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Must become a member of and maintain membership in the Laborers International Union upon beginning work
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work of the trades.

HIRING AND SELECTION PROCEDURES

Prior to acceptance into the apprenticeship program, an applicant must have secured employment through a sponsor. The employer must provide the JATC written notice of intent to promptly hire. No written exam or interview required

Tools Needed

Worker needs to provide a very basic set of hand-tools which include a hammer, trowel, screwdriver, pliers, knife, margin trowel, cresent wrench, water nozzle, and brush. Costs run between $100 and $150.

Transportation Requirements

Job locations vary and are located in the metropolitan areas and out-state as well. Workers must provide their own transportation to and from the jobsite.

Hours

Eight (8) hours daily between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM.

Wages

Apprentice rate of pay begins at $17.18, plus health and welfare and pension benefits.

Union Dues

There are initiation fees, which are not expected to be paid all at once. There are also monthly membership dues plus a working dues fee.
